Crypto.com, a digital asset exchange platform, announced on Friday that it has obtained registration as a virtual asset service provider (VASP) from the central bank of Spain. This registration enables Crypto.com to offer a range of products and services to users in Spain. The company underwent a thorough evaluation of its compliance with the Anti-Money Laundering Directive (AMLD) and other financial crimes laws in order to secure this registration.
The Bank of Spain established a registry for crypto service providers in 2021, and several firms, including Binance, Bitstamp, and the BVNK banking platform, have already registered with the regulator. As the European Union’s new Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) framework has been finalized, member states like Spain will soon begin implementing new standards and requirements in line with this framework.
Kris Marszalek, CEO of Crypto.com, expressed his satisfaction with the VASP registration from the Bank of Spain, stating that it is a testament to their commitment to compliance and their willingness to collaborate with regulators and public officials to responsibly promote crypto and blockchain technology.
